Skilbi's AI-Driven Career Pathway

Crafting  personalized career journeys for students and early-career professionals through a fusion of user insights and advanced AI analytics

Problem Space

College students face significant challenges in selecting a career path due to the overwhelming number of options and lack of personalized guidance. This makes it difficult for students to identify which careers might be a good fit based on their skills and interests.

Goal

The goal was to create an AI-driven solution that guides students through an onboarding questionnaire about their skills and interests, then uses this data to recommend personalized career pathways.

My Role

As a product design intern, I designed the dashboard experience where students view their personalized career pathway recommendations. I defined the design direction through extensive market analysis, and lead user research to gather insights from our target users.

The Design Challange

How might we build trust with students by matching them to relevant career pathways while transparently and ethically handling their personal data?

Research Approach

With limited existing models for AI-driven career guidance in higher education, I conducted research to understand how students currently make career decisions and what would make them trust algorithmic recommendations.

Methods

  1. User Interviews with college students about their career exploration options

  2. Competitive analysis of career tools (LinkedIn Glassdoor) and other platforms (Netflix,Spotify).

  3. Usability evaluation of existing career guidance tools

Key insights

The pivotal insight was recognizing that students are familiar with AI and ML on popular platforms like Netflix, Spotify, Indeed, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn, which offer tailored experiences. This insight inspired the innovative approach of integrating similar AI/ML techniques into Skilbi, employing data-driven personalization for career guidance.
